Basketball Preview: Veritas School Lions vs. Rise Academy Guardians
Veritas School is 1-7 against Rise Academy since February of 2017 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Monday. The Veritas School Lions will hit the road for the first time this season to face off against the Rise Academy Guardians at 6:00 p.m. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Having struggled with ten losses in a row dating back to last season, Veritas School finally turned things around against Grove Christian School on Tuesday. They walked away with a 53-46 win over the Falcons.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Veritas School to victory, but perhaps none more so than Chandler Davidson, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 11 rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Elijah Gaston, who had 12 points plus five rebounds.
Meanwhile, Rise Academy didn't have too much trouble with The Covenant on Friday as they won 76-58.
Rise Academy's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Trevonte Atkins, who had 18 points in addition to three steals. Nathaniel Seaborn was another key player, earning 22 points.
The win got Veritas School back to even at 1-1. As for Rise Academy, their victory ended a six-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 6-4.
Veritas School couldn't quite finish off Rise Academy when the teams last played back in February and fell 70-67. Can Veritas School avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
