Baseball Game Preview: Piketon Redstreaks vs. West Union Dragons

The Piketon Redstreaks will head out on the road to square off against the West Union Dragons at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Piketon is coming into the game on a four-game losing streak.

On Monday, Piketon came up short against Northwest and fell 6-3. That's two games in a row now that the Redstreaks have lost by exactly three runs.

West Union came out on top against Western on Tuesday thanks in part to the team's impressive four-run fourth inning. The Dragons came out on top against the Indians by a score of 8-0 (the very same score they lost by in their prior game). The win was some much needed relief for the Dragons as it spelled an end to their three-game losing streak.

Thomas Barnhart made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 17 over seven innings pitched. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in all five of his plate appearances with three stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Those three stolen bases gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jase Morgan, who went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run. Those three hits gave him a new career-high. Matty Byron also deserves some recognition as he hit his first triple of the season.

Piketon's defeat dropped their record down to 8-15. As for West Union, their record is now 3-17.

Piketon got the 'W' in their previous meeting back in April of 2018 against West Union by a conclusive 12-2 score. Do the Redstreaks have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Dragons turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
