Softball Recap: Chattanooga Central Comes Up Short

Chattanooga Central has relied on a stalwart pitcher averaging four runs allowed per game, but that average took a hit on Tuesday. They took a 12-9 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Signal Mountain Eagles. The Pounders were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Eagles apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in May of 2024.

Kennedi Sabb and Emma Lakin did some serious damage despite the final result: Sabb got on base in all five of her plate appearances with one home run, two runs, and one double, while Lakin went 3-for-5 with one home run and four RBI. That home run was Sabb's first of the season. Sanaa Townsend was another key player, scoring two runs while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.

They weren't the only ones working in the hit department: Chattanooga Central kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their hit total in four consecutive matchups.

Chattanooga Central's loss was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 8-4. As for Signal Mountain, their win ended a six-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 2-5.

The future could be bright for both Chattanooga Central and Signal Mountain: their next opponents haven't had the best luck recently. Chattanooga Central will look to extend Red Bank's seven-game losing streak when they meet at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Signal Mountain will try to hand Bradley Central their fourth-straight defeat when the two meet at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
