Recap: Acalanes Dons vs. Serra Padres

On Tuesday, Acalanes opened the new year with a less-than-successful 58-51 defeat to Serra. While losing is never fun, Acalanes can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 391st, while Serra is ranked 90th).

Several Dons players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Jordan Brown, who scored 17 points. That's the first time this season that Brown scored 15 or more points. Another player making a difference was Liam Krackeler, who scored 11 points.

Acalanes bumped their record down to 6-9 with that loss, which was their third straight at home. As for Serra, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven games, which provided a nice bump to their 8-2 record this season.

Acalanes will be playing at home against Washington at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday. One thing working in Washington's favor is that they have posted big point totals every time they've taken the court this season. As for Serra, they will head out on the road to face off against Sacred Heart Cathedral Preparatory at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Sacred Heart Cathedral Preparatory is coming into the game hot, having won their last three games.
