Football Game Preview: Kirkwood Cobras vs. LaVergne Wolverines

The Kirkwood Cobras will venture away from home to square off against the LaVergne Wolverines at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Kirkwood's defense has only allowed 11.3 points per game this season, so LaVergne's offense will have their work cut out for them.

Kirkwood lost a heartbreaker the last time they played Dickson County, but it's fair to say they got their revenge given the result of Friday's contest. The Cobras breezed past the Cougars to the tune of 49-14 on Friday. Considering the Cobras have won four matchups by more than 20 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

It was another big night for Miles Reding, who threw for 279 yards and four TDs while completing 75% of his passes, and also rushed for 74 yards on only nine carries. What's more, he racked up 152.6 passer rating, the most he's had since back in November of 2024. Another player making a difference was Josiah Claybrooks, who rushed for 100 yards and three touchdowns on only 12 carries.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Kirkwood was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 275 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've managed all season.

Meanwhile, Friday just wasn't the day for LaVergne's offense. They took a blow against Stewarts Creek on Friday, falling 35-0. The loss continues a trend for the Wolverines in their meetings with the Red Hawks: they've now lost five in a row.

Kirkwood's win bumped their record up to 5-1. As for LaVergne, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-6.
