Softball Recap: Westville Falls Short of North Newton in the Playoffs

Westville and North Newton squared off in some playoff action on Tuesday, but Westville had to settle for second. They fell 4-0 to the Spartans. The Blackhawks' defeat signaled the end of their six-game winning streak.

Kierstin Vargas spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and two unearned) runs on seven hits and racked up six Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Westville saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Miranda Sparks, who went 1-for-3 with one triple.

Westville's loss dropped their record down to 19-6. As for North Newton, the win (which was their eighth in a row) raised their record to 21-3-1.

As of now, neither Westville nor the Spartans have any future games scheduled.
