Football Preview: Williamson Lions vs. Murphy Panthers

Suggested Video

The Williamson Lions will head out to face off against the Murphy Panthers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Williamson has five straight victories, Murphy has seven straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Last Friday, a win is a win, as they say, even a pretty close 6-2 win over Rain. Given the Lions' advantage in MaxPreps' Alabama football rankings (they are ranked 32nd, while the Red Raiders are ranked 123rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

One reason for the win was Williamson's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for five sacks. Dontaye Bush was especially locked on to Rain's QB and sacked him three times. Bush is also on a roll when it comes to total tackles, as he's now made eight or more in the last four games he's played dating back to last season. Williamson got some further help from Trey Pettway: he picked up a sack, forced a fumble, and forced a fumble.

Meanwhile, it's never fun to lose, and it's even less fun to lose 44-6, which was the final score in Murphy's tilt against Spanish Fort on Friday.

Williamson's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 5-0. As for Murphy, their loss dropped their record down to 0-5.

Williamson strolled past Murphy when the teams last played back in May of 2021 by a score of 22-6. Will Williamson repeat their success, or does Murphy have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
