Baseball Recap: Clay County Puts Losing Streak Behind Them

After low-scoring totals in their previous three matchup, Clay County brought some dynamite into their most recent contest. They blew past the Pickett County Bobcats 11-1 on Thursday. The victory was some much needed relief for the Bulldogs as it spelled an end to their five-game losing streak.

Nolan Adams made a splash while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run over 4.1 innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Clay County is 5-2 when he allows at most one earned run, but 4-12 otherwise. Adams was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two runs and one stolen base. That's the most hits he has posted since April 7th.

In other batting news, Kolton Brown was incredible, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. He is becoming a predictor of Clay County's success: when he posts at least one home run the team is 2-1 (and 7-13 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Eli Davis, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

Clay County always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .571. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Clay County's win bumped their record up to 9-14. As for Pickett County, they are on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-16.

Looking ahead, Clay County will square off against Jackson County at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Pickett County does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
