Layla Hinojosa made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out nine over four innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in March. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 2-for-2.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kamryn Pickering, who went 2-for-4 with four RBI and one double. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. Audrey Gideon was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-2.
George Jenkins always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .533. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Auburndale only posted an OBP of .350.
Meanwhile, after a string of four wins, Mulberry's good fortune finally ran out on Thursday. They lost 9-3 to McKeel Academy.
Mulberry saw seven different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kensingten Danforth, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base and one RBI. Another was Lylah Jones, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and one RBI.
George Jenkins is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight games. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-8 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.1 runs over those games. As for Mulberry, their defeat dropped their record down to 12-8.
Mulberry's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Tuesday. George Jenkins has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.7 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Mulberry, though, as they've been averaging only 2.8 strikeouts. Will George Jenkins keep running through batters, or will the Panthers buck the trend?
