Recap: Kings Mountain Mountaineers vs. North Gaston Wildcats

The Kings Mountain Mountaineers came into Tuesday's game having lost 21 straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They secured a 41-37 W over North Gaston on Tuesday. Kings Mountain's offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.

Kings Mountain was led to victory by Mia Bridges and Farri Martin. Bridges scored six points along with 14 rebounds and three steals, while Martin scored 15 points along with eight rebounds and two steals. Martin also posted two blocks for the first time this season. La'Zya Byrd was another key contributor, scoring five points along with four steals.

Despite the loss, North Gaston saw an underclassman step up: Jaleila Littlejohn scored 23 points along with five steals. That was a full 62.2% of North Gaston's points, marking the sixth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.

Kings Mountain's win ended a eight-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 1-16. As for North Gaston, they dropped their record down to 4-17 with that defeat, which was their ninth straight on the road.

Kings Mountain and Shelby will face off at 6:00 p.m. on February 7th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Hopefully Shelby focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 15 on Tuesday. As for North Gaston, they will be playing at home against Ashbrook at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Ashbrook will be up against North Gaston's rather soft defense (which has allowed 53.32 points per contest), so fans could be in store for a big offensive showing.
