League recap: League lead hangs in balance for Maine-Endwell, Union-Endicott this week

Section 4 Southern Tier - Metro league recap: 5/7/12

First place in the league standings is up for grabs this week, as Union-Endicott sits just -1.50 games back of Maine-Endwell.

John Burns was on fire this week, as he led Section 4 Southern Tier - Metro with a .571 average with four RBIs. Meanwhile, the Tigers put together a 2-0 week.

Union-Endicott's pitching was especially stingy this week, allowing 29 hits and 22 walks to lead the league in both categories. The Tigers have given up a mere 84 hits on the year in addition to compiling 83 strikeouts. Brandon Diorio is the leader in that category with 25 Ks on the season.

Union-Endicott scored a league-best 31 runs this week, adding to its league-leading 75 runs on the season. The Tigers's key hitters include Burns, who has a team-high 12 runs, and Troy Beddoe, who leads the squad with with 14 RBIs.

Union-Endicott's Burns finished his week with eight hits, tops in the league. On the season, he's hitting .405 and ranks first in the league with 17 hits.
