Charles J. Colgan takes loss despite strong efforts from Mariah Barksdale and Brianna Long

Recap: Charles J. Colgan Sharks vs. John Marshall Justices

If the Charles J. Colgan Sharks were riding high off their 64-22 takedown of the Hylton Bulldogs last Wednesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Charles J. Colgan fell 54-41 to John Marshall on Saturday. While losing is never fun, Charles J. Colgan can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 133rd, while John Marshall is ranked 41st).

Charles J. Colgan's loss came despite strong showings from Brianna Long and Mariah Barksdale. Long dropped a double-double on 14 points and ten rebounds, while Barksdale scored seven points along with seven rebounds and five steals. Long has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last six times she's played.

Charles J. Colgan struggled to work together and finished the game with only three assists. That's the fewest assists they've managed all season.

Charles J. Colgan's defeat dropped their record down to 9-8. As for John Marshall, they pushed their record up to 12-5 with that win, which was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Charles J. Colgan will take on Gar-Field at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
