Recap: Morenci Bulldogs vs. Holgate Tigers
The Morenci Bulldogs''s recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their fifth straight loss. They fell 30-22 to Holgate. While losing is never fun, Morenci can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps's football rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 79th in Michigan, while Holgate is ranked second in Ohio).
When it comes to explaining why Morenci lost, one person who can't be blamed is Michael Rising. Despite the final result, he rushed for 119 yards.
Leading Holgate to victory were Isaac Mendoza and Xavier Mccord. Mendoza gained 175 total yards and two touchdowns, while Mccord rushed for 127 yards and two touchdowns on only eight carries. Mendoza was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 56 yards.
Morenci's defeat dropped their record down to 2-6. As for Holgate, their win was their fifth straight on the road (dating back to last season), which bumped their overall record up to 7-1.
Morenci does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Holgate will look to defend their home field on October 28th against St. Mary Central Catholic at 7:00 p.m. St. Mary Central Catholic knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past three matches -- so hopefully Holgate likes a good challenge.
