Baseball Game Preview: Cadott Hornets vs. Augusta Beavers

The Cadott Hornets will square off against the Augusta Beavers at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Cadott is coming into the matchup on a five-game losing streak.

Cadott couldn't beat Elk Mound on Thursday even though they stacked four runs on them in the second inning. The Hornets came up short against the Mounders, falling 13-7.

Max Schneider stepped up to lead a balanced group of hitters: he went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one run. The team also got some help courtesy of Jacob Pilgrim, who went 2-for-3 with two runs.

Meanwhile, it may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Augusta ultimately got the result they hoped for on Thursday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past Whitehall 12-10. The Beavers' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

Augusta got a massive performance out of Josh Shong, who went 3-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. Those two runs gave Shong a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Nathan Atchison, who got on base in three of his five plate appearances with three runs and one stolen base.

Augusta kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 4.3 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 contests they've averaged 9.6.

Cadott now has a losing record of 6-7. As for Augusta, they picked up their first road win, bumping their record up to 3-11.

Cadott came out on top in a nail-biter against Augusta when the teams last played back in April of 2024, sneaking past 7-6. Do the Hornets have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Beavers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
