Preview: Southwestern Academy Sun vs. Calvary Baptist Cougars
Southwestern Academy is 0-3 against Calvary Baptist since January of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Southwestern Academy Sun are on the road again and play against the Calvary Baptist Cougars at 5:30 p.m. on December 12th. Southwestern Academy comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 25 points in their last six games, a trend the squad is of course eager to reverse.
Even though Southwestern Academy has not done well against Waverly recently (they were 0-5 in their previous five matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. Southwestern Academy came out on top in a nail-biter against Waverly and snuck past 18-16. The victory was just what Southwestern Academy needed coming off of a 46-3 loss in their prior contest.
Southwestern Academy's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Dominika Radziwon, who scored 7 points along with 13 rebounds. Michelle Fakrogha was another key contributor, scoring 5 points along with 10 rebounds and 7 steals.
Meanwhile, Calvary Baptist didn't have too much trouble with San Gabriel Mission on the road last Friday as they won 44-29. The win made it back-to-back wins for Calvary Baptist.
The last time Southwestern Academy lost on the road was back last Friday. Having now won four straight away matches, they've pushed their record up to 1-5. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 10.3 points per game. As for Calvary Baptist, they now have a winning record of 3-2.
Southwestern Academy came up short against Calvary Baptist when the teams last played back in January of 2016, falling 25-15. Can Southwestern Academy avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
