The Paloma Valley Wildcats will face off against the West Valley Mustangs at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Paloma Valley is coming into the matchup on a four-game losing streak.
Last Thursday, Paloma Valley came up short against Temescal Canyon and fell 3-1. While the Wildcats didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Titans 25-21 in the first set.
Paloma Valley started the match hot and won the first set, but they struggled down the stretch and lost the last three. The match finished with set scores of 21-25, 25-19, 25-16, 25-21.
Despite the defeat, Paloma Valley got top-tier performance from Isaac Mendoza, who had 13 digs and four aces. That's the most aces Mendoza has posted over his last six games.
Meanwhile, West Valley came up short against Citrus Hill on Thursday, falling 3-0.
While West Valley was not able to make it on the board, they still kept things close, especially in the first set. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-22, 25-21, 25-15.
Paloma Valley will need to focus on slowing down Carlvin Valdez, one of several West Valley players who made an impact when they last played. He had 15 digs and 11 assists. Nile Ledda was another key player, getting 11 digs and five aces.
West Valley dropped their record down to 4-7 with the loss, which was their eighth straight on the road dating back to last season. As for Paloma Valley, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-8.
Paloma Valley came out on top in a nail-biter against West Valley in their previous matchup back in February, sneaking past 2-1. Will Paloma Valley repeat their success, or does West Valley have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
