Baseball Recap: Morenci Gets the Win

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Combs, Morenci was happy to have turned things around on Saturday. They came out on top against the St. Johns Redskins by a score of 5-1. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 13-6 back in March.

The team relied heavily on Brennen Burkhead, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. Those three hits gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Alejandro Laprada, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with two stolen bases.

Morenci is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a massive bump to their 5-15 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 4.0 runs on average over those games. As for St. Johns, the defeat snapped their winning streak at four games and leaves them with a 4-11 record.

Looking ahead, Morenci will head out on the road to square off against Desert Christian at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. As for St. Johns, they will square off against Holbrook at 2:00 p.m. on Monday. The Redskins' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Roadrunners have averaged an impressive 8.5 runs per game this season.
