Basketball Recap: Dynamic Duo of Emir Gainer and Nijaun Harris Lead St. Petersburg to Victory

St. Petersburg's game on Friday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Saturday. They were the clear victors by a 79-59 margin over the Carrollwood Day Patriots. The Green Devils pushed the score to 56-35 by the end of the third, a deficit the Patriots cut but never quite recovered from.

Leading St. Petersburg to victory were Nijaun Harris and Emir Gainer. Harris shot 48% from the field on his way to 23 points in addition to eight rebounds and six assists, while Gainer posted 21 points and seven assists. The contest was Harris' fourth in a row with at least 22 points. Bryan Hollenberg was another key player, putting up eight points.

Carrollwood Day lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Ayaan Bhadouria, who earned 14 points. Another player making a difference was Nyjil Lucas, who scored ten points.

The victory got St. Petersburg back to even at 1-1. As for Carrollwood Day, they now have a losing record of 1-2.

St. Petersburg wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, an 83-62 defeat against Mater Lakes Academy on the 28th. As for Carrollwood Day, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 66-63 win against North Tampa Christian Academy on the 28th.
