Basketball Recap: Carmen Smith's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Edgewood over Mineola

Edgewood lost against Mineola back in January, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Edgewood Bulldogs took a 43-37 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Mineola Yellowjackets. While losing is never fun, the Bulldogs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 920th, while the Yellowjackets are ranked 356th).

Edgewood's loss came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Carmen Smith, who dropped a double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds. Another player making a difference was Taylor Thompson, who posted five points.

Edgewood has traveled a rocky road recently having lost four of their last five matchups, which has put a noticeable dent in their 9-22 record this season. As for Mineola, their victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 19-14.

Edgewood has already played their next game, a 71-28 defeat against Tatum on the 10th. As for Mineola, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 47-34 win against Gladewater on the 11th.
