Frederick Douglass let Henry Clay stack four runs on them in the fifth inning on Thursday but luckily Frederick Douglass prevailed anyway. The Broncos had just enough and edged out the Blue Devils 7-6.
Haley McGuire was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one home run.
In other batting news, Emma Dunn was incredible, going 2-for-4 with two doubles, one stolen base, and two RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March. Armani Happy was another key player, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases and one run.
Frederick Douglass was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Henry Clay only posted a batting average of .259.
Frederick Douglass' victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 11-5-1. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.3 runs over those games. As for Paris, their loss dropped their record down to 11-7.
Friday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Paris has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .450. However, it's not like Frederick Douglass struggles in that department as they've averaged .436. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
