The Canby Cougars will head out on the road to challenge the Thurston Colts at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Canby will be strutting in after a win while Thurston will be coming in after a defeat.
Canby proved they can win big on Tuesday (they won by 12) and on Wednesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They skirted past Bend 8-7. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Cougars have posted since May 17, 2024.

Alli Hayzlett made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out 12 batters over seven innings while giving up three earned (and four unearned) runs off six hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in five consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring a run while getting on base in three of her five plate appearances.
In other batting news, Katelyn Vissers was incredible, going 2-for-3 with three runs, one triple, and one double. Ava Heckathorn was another key player, scoring a run while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.
Canby was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .382. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Meanwhile, Thurston came up short against West Albany on Tuesday and fell 7-2. The Colts have struggled against the Bulldogs recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive lost meeting.
Thurston saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kendall Miller, who went 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.
Canby is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matches. That's provided a massive bump to their 4-3 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 4.0 runs on average over those games. As for Thurston, their loss dropped their record down to 4-2.
Friday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Canby hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .322. However, it's not like Thurston struggles in that department as they've averaged .352. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
