Football Recap: Jeremy Bluford Key Part of Team Effort in Roughriders Win

Center won the last time they faced Rusk and things went their way on Friday too. The Roughriders walked away with a 27-20 win over the Eagles.

Center got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Jeremy Bluford out in front who rushed for 139 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 8.7 yards per carry. Bluford has been hot recently, having posted two or more rushing touchdowns the last three times he's played. Easton Wulf was another key player, rushing for 60 yards and a pair of scores.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Center was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 211 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 172 rushing yards in four consecutive games.

Center's defense stepped up as well, laying out Maleki Overstreet four times. That dominant display was truly a team effort as four different players picked up one apiece. Center got some further help from Grant Gregory: he picked up a sack, made ten total tackles, and defended one pass.

Rusk's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Adrian Tumblin, who rushed for 89 yards, and also caught one TD. Damian Reggie was in the mix as well, providing the Eagles with two touchdowns.

The win got Center back to even at 5-5. As for Rusk, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-9.

Looking ahead, Center will be playing at home against Van at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Roughriders will be up against the Vandals' rather soft defense (which has allowed 32.3 points per contest), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance. Rusk does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
