Basketball Recap: East Lincoln Gets the Win

After losing to Lincolnton the last time they met, East Lincoln decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. The Mustangs secured an 80-75 W over the Wolves on Saturday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Mustangs.

Christian Atkins had an outrageously good game as he went 6-for-9 from beyond the arc en route to 35 points. Those 35 points gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Grant Lawless, who posted eight points in addition to ten boards and seven assists.

East Lincoln was working as a unit and finished the game with 29 assists. They racked up 14 more assists than Lincolnton's also-impressive total of 15.

When it comes to explaining why Lincolnton lost, don't look at Josiah Guyton. Despite the final result, he shot 72% from the field on his way to 36 points along with five rebounds and three steals. Guyton's afternoon made it five games in a row in which he has scored at least 19 points. Cam Smith was another key player, dropping a double-double with 14 points and 13 boards.

East Lincoln's record now sits at 2-0. As for Lincolnton, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-2.

Looking ahead, East Lincoln will welcome Newton-Conover at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. This will be the Mustangs' first chance to prove their worth in the conference. As for Lincolnton, they are taking a road trip to challenge Shelby at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
