Volleyball Recap: Sandia Matadors vs. Santa Fe Demons
After flying high against Manzano last Thursday, Sandia came back down to earth. The Matadors fell 3-1 to the Santa Fe Demons on Thursday. The Matadors haven't had much luck with the Demons recently, as the team has come up short the last three times they've met.
While Sandia ultimately came up short, they really made Santa Fe work, particularly in the fourth set. The final score came out to 25-21, 19-25, 25-20, 27-25.
Greta Klinkmann paced Sandia's offense, picking up nine kills. Klinkmann got some help from Payton Ostrander and her 22 assists. Rachel Apodaca controlled things from the service line, finishing with five aces.
Santa Fe can attribute much of their success to Payten Chavez, who had 15 digs and six assists. That's the most assists Chavez has posted since back in October.
Sandia's loss dropped their record down to 6-16. As for Santa Fe, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-8 record this season.
Sandia didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 3-0 victory against Eldorado on the 7th. Santa Fe does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
