Preview: Wilson Prep Tigers vs. Rocky Mount Prep Jaguars

Wilson Prep is 1-0 against Rocky Mount Prep since October of 2022, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Wilson Prep Tigers will head out on the road to face off against the Rocky Mount Prep Jaguars at 7:00 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Wilson Prep has seven straight victories, Rocky Mount Prep has eight straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Wilson Prep had a rough season last year, but they looks ready to turn that poor record around this year. They snuck past Northampton County with a 34-28 victory on Friday.

Wilson Prep's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Xavier Williams, who rushed for 80 yards and two touchdowns on only six carries. Christian Richardson and his 141 yards on the ground were also a key factor in Wilson Prep's win.

Wilson Prep's defense stepped up as well, laying out the QB four times. Leading the way was Jordan Hamm and his three sacks.

Meanwhile, Rocky Mount Prep fell victim to Warren County's stalwart defense two weeks ago and couldn't make it onto the board. They took a serious blow against the Eagles, falling 56-0.

Wilson Prep's win was their fifth straight at home, bumping their overall record up to 7-1. That said, the team wasn't facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 2-6 North Edgecombe and 2-6 East Columbus (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 38.9% over those games). As for Rocky Mount Prep, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-7.

Everything came up roses for Wilson Prep against Rocky Mount Prep when the teams last played back in October of 2022 as the squad secured a 67-0 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Wilson Prep since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
