Baseball Recap: Hernando Victorious

Hernando's game on Saturday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Tuesday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past the DeSoto Central Jaguars 8-6. That's more bragging rights for the Tigers, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Beau Herman looked comfortable as he tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Hernando is undefeated when Herman allows two or fewer hits, but 5-8 otherwise.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Cole Gregg, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI. He has become a key player for Hernando: the team is 5-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 3-7 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Donavan Dickson, who went 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

The victory got Hernando back to even at 8-8. As for DeSoto Central, with the defeat, they broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 9-8.

Hernando will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Jaguars: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
