Football Recap: Mesa Verde Comes Up Short Despite Brandon Salcido's Big Defensive Game

Mesa Verde extended their losing streak to four on Friday, dropping them down to 3-6. They took a 35-28 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Lindhurst Blazers. The home team had taken home the W every time these teams have met since August 17, 2018, but that streak is no more.

Even if they lost, Mesa Verde's defensive line still kept up the pressure with three sacks. Brandon Salcido was especially locked on to Lindhurst's QB and sacked him twice. Salcido is also on a roll when it comes to total tackles, as he's now made five or more in each of the last six games he's played.

As for Lindhurst, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 6-3. The victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 36.8 points over those games.

Joel Gonzales had an outrageously good game as he rushed for 101 yards and one TD on only 13 carries. Those 101 rushing yards gave him a new career-high.

Looking ahead, Mesa Verde will host Elite at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Mavericks will be up against the Eagles' rather soft defense (which has allowed 43.89 points per contest), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance. As for Lindhurst, they will challenge Rio Vista at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Blazers' defense better be ready for this one: the Rams have averaged an impressive 36.3 points per game this season.
