Volleyball Recap: Westminster Christian Academy Falls Short Against Ranked Slidell

Westminster Christian Academy faced Slidell in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Friday. The Crusaders fell just short of the Tigers by a score of 2-1. The Crusaders have struggled against the Tigers recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost matchup.

Westminster Christian Academy started the match hot and won the first set, but they struggled down the stretch and lost the last two. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-27, 25-19, 15-9.

Slidell's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Ava Labat led the charge by getting ten digs and two aces. Labat has been hot for a while, having also posted 17 or more assists the last 18 times she's played. Ella Kate Spilling was another key player, getting 18 digs.

Westminster Christian Academy's defeat dropped their record down to 14-4. As for Slidell, they pushed their record up to 18-5 with the win, which was their eighth straight on the road.

Coming up, Westminster Christian Academy will head out to square off against Opelousas Catholic at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The matchup will give the Crusaders their first taste of in-conference action this season. As for Slidell, they have already played their next contest, a 2-1 victory against John Curtis Christian on the 4th.
