Basketball Game Preview: Bell Gardens Lancers vs. Schurr Spartans

Bell Gardens is 2-8 against Schurr since January of 2020 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Bell Gardens Lancers will host the Schurr Spartans at 5:30 p.m.

Last Tuesday, Bell Gardens was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 55-49 to Mark Keppel. While losing is never fun, the Lancers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 1022nd, while the Aztecs are ranked 267th).

Schurr fell on hard times earlier this season, but after back-to-back wins it seems like their luck might finally be changing. They took down Montebello 63-47 on Tuesday.

Schurr has also been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 6-12 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 65.0 points per game. As for Bell Gardens, their loss dropped their record down to 6-12.

Bell Gardens was taken down by Schurr 75-34 when the teams last played back in February of 2024. Can Bell Gardens avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
