Basketball Recap: The Daniel Academy Sets Scoring Season-High Against Independence Home School

The Daniel Academy fought the good fight in their overtime contest against Independence Home School on Thursday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They took a 61-55 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Independence Home School Lions. One positive for The Daniel Academy, at least, is that this was the most points they've scored all season.

Despite the loss, The Daniel Academy saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Noah Maldinado posted 18 points along with six steals and five rebounds. The match was Maldinado's fourth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jack Hanson, who went 5 of 9 on his way to 10 points and five boards.

Even though they lost, The Daniel Academy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 19 offensive boards. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.

Independence Home School got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Aidan Vanderhorst out in front who put up 23 points. Philip Cresswell was another key player, putting up 16 points.

The Daniel Academy is on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-6. As for Independence Home School, their victory ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 8-5.

The Daniel Academy will square off against Frontier STEM at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. The Daniel Academy is facing Frontier STEM at the right time seeing as Frontier STEM is stuck on a ten-game losing streak. As for Independence Home School, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 52-45 defeat against Training Center Christian on the 24th.
