The Arickaree Bison will take on the Lone Star Longhorns at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Arickaree is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 54.6 points per game this season.
Arickaree easily dispatched Bethune on Friday, but unfortunately both the margin and the ultimate result were a different story in this one. Arickaree fell just short of Denver Waldorf by a score of 51-48 on Saturday.
01/25/25 @ Denver Waldorf | 16 |
01/17/25 vs Hi-Plains | 14 |
01/15/25 @ Peetz | 14 |
12/07/24 @ Las Animas | 12 |
02/09/24 vs Hanover | 11 |
Despite their loss, Arickaree saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Zarron Skubal, who went 8 for 10 on his way to 16 points and five boards, was perhaps the best of all. The dominant performance gave Skubal a new career-high in points. Dillon Noletubby was another key player, putting up 15 points along with five rebounds and four steals.
Even though they lost, Arickaree smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 12 offensive rebounds in six consecutive games.
Meanwhile, even if it wasn't a dominant performance, Lone Star beat Weldon Valley 46-40 on Friday.
Arickaree better keep an eye on Grant Kuntz. He was instrumental in Lone Star's win, almost dropping a double-double on 16 points and nine boards. That makes it three consecutive games in which Kuntz has scored at least a third of Lone Star's points. Another player making a difference was Jesus Hermosillo, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 11 rebounds.
Lone Star is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 5-4 record this season. As for Arickaree, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-4.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Arickaree has been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 31.4 boards per game. However, it's not like Lone Star struggles in that department as they've been averaging 35.7 rebounds. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Arickaree couldn't quite finish off Lone Star in their previous meeting back in February of 2024 and fell 63-61. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Kuntz, who dropped a double-double on 22 points and 16 boards. Now that Arickaree knows the damage he can cause, will they be able to stop him this time? There's only one way to find out.
