Basketball Recap: Crystal Springs Uplands Takes a Loss

Crystal Springs Uplands was the 50-29 winner over Castilleja when they last played one another back in February of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Crystal Springs Uplands Gryphons received a blow on Friday as they fell 56-40 to the Castilleja Gators. While losing is never fun, the Gryphons can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 530th, while the Gators are ranked 107th).

Antonia Vlahos was her usual excellent self, going 10 of 20 en route to 25 points in addition to eight boards and seven steals for Castilleja. The game was Vlahos' seventh in a row with at least ten points. Layla Gallon was another key player, going 6 for 11 on her way to 12 points and six rebounds.

This is the second loss in a row for Crystal Springs Uplands and nudges their season record down to 5-3. As for Castilleja, their win bumped their record up to 11-2.

Crystal Springs Uplands has already played their next matchup (against Terra Nova), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Castilleja will head out to take on Eastside College Prep at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Eastside College Prep's defense has only allowed 23.8 points per game this season, so Castilleja's offense will have their work cut out for them.
