Softball Recap: Make It Five in a Row for Weiss

Weiss extended their winning streak to five on Tuesday, bumping them up to 22-3-2. They put the hurt on the Elgin Wildcats with a sharp 11-1 win. The result was nothing new for the -, who have now won 11 games by eight runs or more so far this season.

Jillian Herridge made a splash no matter where she played. She tossed 4.2 innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in strikeouts (five). She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Sofia Alvarez, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. Ashlyn Woydziak was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

Weiss hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least five batters every time they've taken the field this season.

As for Elgin, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 6-17-1. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 19-5 Hendrickson (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 82.2% over those games).

On Elgin's side, they saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Trinity Martinez, who went 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Weiss will challenge rival Hendrickson at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the - 3.4, the Hawks 2.1) so any runs scored will be well earned. Meanwhile, Elgin is set to square off against their familiar foe Georgetown at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
