Football Recap: Davon Swinton Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Crisp County

It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Stephens County had no problem doing just that on Friday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Crisp County Cougars, sneaking past 24-21. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Indians have posted since November 22, 2024.

Stephens County's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Davon Swinton, who picked up 173 receiving yards and one score. Those 173 receiving yards gave Swinton a new career-high. Stephens County also relied on Jasiah Wiley, who's 46-yard boot wound up being the difference in the game.

Another reason for the win was Stephens County's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for three sacks. The team can thank three different players for their defensive prowess: Morris Perkins, Asher Fleming, and Kaden Johnson, who each picked up one sack apiece. Another thorn in Crisp County's side was Perkins, who picked up a sack and made nine total tackles (6.0 for loss).

Although Crisp County took the loss, they still got scores from Deshaun Fedd, Derrell Brown, and Charvarus Blanks.

Stephens County now has a winning record of 6-5. As for Crisp County, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-7.

Coming up, Stephens County will square off against Carver at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Indians will need to watch out since the Tigers have now posted at least 31 points in their last three matchups. Crisp County does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
