Recap: Covington Trojans vs. West Lafayette Red Devils
After flying high against the Riverton Parke Panthers on Friday, the Covington Trojans came back down to earth. Covington received a tough blow on Saturday as they fell 74-55 to West Lafayette. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Despite the loss, Covington had strong showings from Coye Ferguson, who scored 15 points along with six rebounds, and Austin Stein, who scored 16 points. The contest was Ferguson's fifth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kolten Haymaker, who scored eight points.
Covington has been struggling recently, as they've lost five of their last six contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-7 record this season. As for West Lafayette, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 8-4.
Covington will head out on the road to face off against Parke Heritage at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Parke Heritage will be looking to keep their five-game home win streak alive. West Lafayette will take on Rensselaer Central at 8:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Rensselaer Central focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 26 last Wednesday.
