Baseball Game Preview: Simi Valley Pioneers vs. Kennedy Fighting Irish

The Simi Valley Pioneers will be taking part in a tournament against the Kennedy Fighting Irish at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Neither Simi Valley nor Kennedy posted many runs in their last games, so it might be the pitching crews that decide this one.

Simi Valley fell victim to El Dorado and their airtight pitching crew on Monday. They took a 5-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Golden Hawks. The Pioneers have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Simi Valley got a good showing from Greg Lopez, who tossed 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Lopez has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than one walk in five consecutive appearances.

Meanwhile, Kennedy didn't have quite enough to beat California on Tuesday and fell 2-1.

Anthony Hernandez was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. He struck out ten batters over six innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. What's more, he gave up only two walks, the fewest he's had since back in February. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 3-for-3. Those three hits gave him a new career-high.

Hernandez wasn't the only one making solid contact as two players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Jonathan Arreola, who went 1-for-2 with one RBI.

Simi Valley's record is now 6-4. As for Kennedy, their record is now 8-7.

Kennedy's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Simi Valley hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .323.
