Football Recap: Gaffney Drops Highest Score of Season Against Eastside + How To Watch

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Gaffney). They managed a 40-35 win over the Eastside Eagles on Friday. The final result isn't all that surprising considering the Indians' considerable advantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina football rankings (they are ranked 26th, while the Eagles are ranked 87th).

Gaffney had a senior duo take command as Josiah Hill rushed for 120 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 7.1 yards per carry and Banks Bouton rushed for 104 yards and a pair of scores on only 11 carries. Those three rushing touchdowns set a new season-high mark for Hill.

Gaffney was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 264 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've posted since back in October of 2024.

When it comes to explaining why Eastside lost, don't look at Peyton Schrader. Despite the final result, he rushed for 129 yards and two TDs on only 11 carries, and also threw for 129 yards and one touchdown. Schrader also deserves a shoutout for his performance on D, forcing one fumble and making ten total tackles.

The victory (which was Gaffney's third in a row) raised their record to 4-2. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 34.0 points over those games. As for Eastside, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-3.

We've got plenty of inter-region action coming up soon. Gaffney will challenge rival James F. Byrnes at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. That matchup will pit two of the most dominant backs against one another: Hill and Tre Segarra. Meanwhile, Eastside is set to take on their familiar foe Riverside at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
