Softball Recap: Gurdon's Luck Changes for the Better on Monday

Gurdon came into Monday's matchup having lost six straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They were the clear victors by a 15-9 margin over the Junction City Dragons on Monday. The result was nothing new for the Devils, who have now won five games by six runs or more so far this season.

Sadie Griffin made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out seven batters over seven innings while giving up four earned (and five unearned) runs off nine hits (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one triple. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in March of 2025.

In other batting news, Gurdon got a massive performance out of Claire Jackson, who went 2-for-5 with two stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. That's the most runs Jackson has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Addi Jones, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with four runs.

Gurdon always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .514. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Junction City only posted an OBP of .235.

Gurdon's win bumped their record up to 7-8. As for Junction City, they are on an eight-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-12.

Looking ahead, Gurdon will head out to challenge Ouachita at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Junction City, they will face off against Emerson at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
