Football Recap: Burwell Takes a Loss

Burwell fell victim to Central Valley and their airtight defense on Friday. They were beaten by the Cougars 46-0. Having soared to a lofty 64 points in the game before, the Longhorns' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.

Binyam Sikes threw for 41 yards on four of ten attempts. On the ground, Drew Dawe rushed for 76 yards.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Central Valley to victory, but perhaps none more so than William Pokorny, who rushed for 59 yards and one TD. Those 59 rushing yards gave Pokorny a new career-high. Lincoln Nekoliczak was another key passer, throwing for 110 yards and a pair of touchdowns while completing 78.6% of his passes.

Burwell's loss dropped their record down to 3-2. As for Central Valley, the win keeps them at an undefeated 5-0.

Looking ahead, Burwell will look to defend their home field on Friday against Anselmo-Merna. As for Central Valley, they are taking a road trip to face off against Twin Loup at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Cougars will need to watch out since the Wolves have now posted at least 31 points in their last three games.
