Basketball Recap: Harrison Comes Up Short

Fans were treated to a Battle of the Panthers on Monday. Harrison came up short against Peyton, falling 40-20. The contest marked Harrison's lowest-scoring matchup so far this season.

When it comes to explaining why Harrison lost, don't look at Nadia Turnipseed. Despite the final result, she posted nine points along with seven rebounds and four steals. The dominant performance also gave Turnipseed a new career-high in blocks (three).

Even though they lost, Harrison smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive rebounds in three consecutive games.

Peyton's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Sammie Nickell led the charge by dropping a double-double with ten points and ten boards. Nickell is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down ten or more in each of the last four games she's played. Scarlett Clark was another key player, putting up seven points and three steals.

Harrison's defeat was their third straight at home, which dropped their record down to 7-11. As for Peyton, the victory was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 9-8.

Harrison didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 35-32 loss against Palmer on the 14th. Peyton will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Evangel Christian Academy at 6:30 p.m. on February 20th. Evangel Christian Academy will roll in looking for their seventh straight victory, something Peyton surely won't give up without a fight.
