Baseball Recap: Colony Has No Trouble Against Riverside Prep

After losing to Riverside Prep the last time they met, Colony decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. The Colony Titans were the clear victor by an 8-1 margin over the Riverside Prep Silver Knights on Saturday. The result was nothing new for the Titans, who have now won five matches by seven runs or more so far this season.

Steven Gonzales and Anthony Moreno dominated on the mound. Gonzales pitched four innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits, while Moreno struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and not a single walk). Gonzales has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Elijah Ybanez, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. Ricardo Zazueta was another key player, scoring two runs while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

Colony hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now struck out at most five strikeouts every time they've taken the field this season.

Colony's record is now 5-1. As for Riverside Prep, with the loss, they broke their four-game winning streak and moved their record to 4-1.

Coming up, Colony will venture away from home to take on Patriot at 3:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Colony is facing Patriot at the right time seeing as Patriot is stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Riverside Prep, they will host Adelanto at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Riverside Prep is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.6 runs per game this season.
