Softball Recap: Discovery Canyon's Luck Changes for the Better on Friday

Discovery Canyon had lost four straight, but after bumping their record up to 5-9 on Friday that streak is in the rearview. They blew past the La Junta Tigers 9-1. That's more bragging rights for the Thunder, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Bella Holcomb spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on four hits and racked up 12 Ks.

On the hitting side, Tylee Creps was incredible, going 3-for-5 with four RBI and two runs. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. Kaitlyn Chaumont was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.

As for La Junta, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 9-7. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat they have suffered since August 30th.

On La Junta's side, they also let their pitcher toss all seven innings and she was also dialed-in: Isabelle Aragon gave up only one earned (and eight unearned) runs on 11 hits. Aragon has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, La Junta saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Marli Gonzales, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one stolen base.

Discovery Canyon didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 23-3 win against Lewis-Palmer on the 22nd. As for La Junta, they have also already played their next game, a 12-2 loss against Southeast Colorado on the 23rd.
