West Potomac posted their closest win since February 22, 2024 on Monday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Woodson Cavaliers, sneaking past 37-35. The victory was all the more spectacular given the Wolverines' disadvantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 119th, while the Cavaliers are ranked seventh).

Despite the loss, Woodson had strong showings from Kaylen Chilton, who posted 11 points in addition to five rebounds and four steals, and William Taylor, who earned three points along with six boards and six blocks. The dominant performance gave Taylor a new career-high in blocks. Another player making a difference was Kollin Morgan, who put up four points.

West Potomac is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games, which provided a nice bump to their 12-9 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 54.3 points over those games. As for Woodson, their defeat was their first in the region, dropping their region record down to 11-1 and their overall record down to 18-3.

Looking ahead, West Potomac won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Lake Braddock at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Woodson, they also won't have to wait long for more action: they'll challenge Fairfax at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Woodson is facing Fairfax at the right time seeing as Fairfax is stuck on a three-game losing streak.
