Preview: Kimball Longhorns vs. Mitchell Tigers
Kimball is 2-8 against Mitchell since January of 2016 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Kimball Longhorns will head out on the road to take on the Mitchell Tigers at 5:30 p.m. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.
Kimball suffered their biggest defeat since December 8, 2023 on Tuesday. They were beaten by Chase County 47-18. Kimball has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Addy Olson was Kimball's leading scorer, having posted seven points.
Rachel Berger held things down on the boards with eight rebounds.
Meanwhile, Mitchell's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their tenth straight loss. They ended up on the wrong side of a tough 40-20 walloping at the hands of Southeast. While losing is never fun, Mitchell can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps's basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 222nd in Nebraska, while Southeast is ranked 19th in Wyoming).
Kimball has not been sharp recently, as they've lost seven of their last nine matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-9 record this season. As for Mitchell, they bumped their record down to 3-12 with that defeat, which was their seventh straight at home.
Kimball came up short against Mitchell when the teams last played back in January of 2023, falling 38-27. Can Kimball avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
