The Lynchburg-Clay Mustangs will head out to face off against the Zane Trace Pioneers at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. The last three games Lynchburg-Clay has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
While Lynchburg-Clay's win against West Union wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Mustangs sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 10-8 victory over the Dragons on Thursday. The win continues a trend for the Mustangs in their matchups with the Dragons: they've now won five in a row.
Aubrey Roberts spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and four unearned) runs on nine hits and racked up six Ks. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Sophia. Michael was incredible, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with two runs, two RBI, and one double. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April of 2024. Kami Collins was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run.
Lynchburg-Clay always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .556. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as West Union only posted an OBP of .344.
Meanwhile, Zane Trace fell victim to Jackson and their airtight pitching crew on Thursday. They took a 3-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Ironman/Ironladies. The match marked the first time this season in which the Pioneers were not able to get on the board.
Lynchburg-Clay pushed their record up to 9-3 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.7 runs over those games. As for Zane Trace, their loss dropped their record down to 5-7.
Zane Trace's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Lynchburg-Clay hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .323. It's a different story for Zane Trace, though, as they've only averaged .246. Will they be able to contain Lynchburg-Clay's hitters?
Lynchburg-Clay couldn't quite finish off Zane Trace in their previous matchup back in April of 2024 and fell 4-2. Can the Mustangs avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
