Baseball Recap: Beechcroft Cougars vs. Mifflin Punchers

Beechcroft had lost ten straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Monday they dropped their record down to 1-8 to make it 11. They came up short against the Mifflin Punchers, falling 13-3. The Cougars were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Punchers earlier this season, when they won 12-10.

As for Mifflin, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-4 record this season. Considering they have won eight matches by more than five runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

For Mifflin's part, Wilfred Torres and Adrian Hernandez made a big impact no matter where they played. On the mound, Torres struck out six batters over two innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs but no hits. Meanwhile, Hernandez struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and not a single walk). Those six strikeouts gave him a new career-high. At bat, Torres went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI, while Hernandez got on base in all four of his plate appearances with three RBI, two runs, and one triple.

In other batting news, Francis Awuah was incredible, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Those three runs gave him a new career-high. Jeff Martinez also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Beechcroft will face off against Columbus International at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Cougars are facing the Lions at the right time seeing as the Lions are stuck on a five-game losing streak. As for Mifflin, they will take on Whetstone at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Braves' pitching crew has only allowed 2.7 runs per game this season, so the Punchers' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
