Volleyball Recap: Wakefield Comes Up Short

After flying high against Madison on Tuesday, Wakefield came back down to earth. The Trojans fell just short of the Lyons-Decatur Northeast Cougars by a score of 2-1 on Thursday. The Trojans were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Cougars apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in October of 2024.

In a back-and-forth that saw neither team win consecutive sets, Wakefield sadly dropped the once that decided the match. The match finished with set scores of 25-23, 17-25, 25-18.

Despite the loss, Wakefield still got an impressive performance from Ashlyn Riewer, who had 21 digs and two assists. Riewer is on a roll when it comes to digs, as she's now had ten or more in each of the last three games she's played. Arianna Juarez also deserves some recognition as she served her first aces of the season.

Wakefield's defeat dropped their record down to 1-8. As for Lyons-Decatur Northeast, they moved to 2-3 with that win, which also ended their three-game losing streak.

Wakefield has already played their next match, a 2-0 loss against Ponca on the 11th. As for Lyons-Decatur Northeast, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 2-0 defeat against Laurel-Concord-Coleridge on the 11th.
