Volleyball Game Preview: Athenian Owls vs. Holy Names Monarchs

The Athenian Owls will square off against the Holy Names Monarchs at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.

On Tuesday, Athenian made easy work of Brave Christian and carried off a 3-0 win.

Not only was the match a shutout, it was a big one: Athenian took every set by at least 12 points. The final score came out to 25-8, 25-10, 25-13.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Holy Names, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Tuesday. They put the hurt on Fremont Christian with a sharp 3-0 victory on Thursday. The Monarchs haven't had any issues with the Warriors recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive win against them.

One reason for the win was Holy Names' just kept getting better, winning each set by more points than the last. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-21, 25-20, 25-18.

Athenian's victory bumped their record up to 10-11. As for Holy Names, their win bumped their record up to 6-14.

Athenian came out on top in a nail-biter against Holy Names in their previous meeting back in August of 2024, sneaking past 3-2. Do the Owls have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Monarchs turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
