Recap: Irmo Yellowjackets vs. Ridge View Blazers
The Irmo Yellowjackets lost against the Ridge View Blazers back in January, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. Irmo's rough 72-52 loss to the Blazers might stick with them for a while. While losing is never fun, Irmo can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 132nd, while the Blazers are ranked first).
Despite the loss, Irmo saw an underclassman step up: Donovan Murph scored 23 points along with five rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Murph has scored all season. AJ Brand was another key contributor, scoring 12 points along with six rebounds and three steals.
Irmo has not been sharp recently as the team's lost 11 of their last 13 games, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-17 record this season. As for Ridge View, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 20-1.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Irmo will square off against the Falcons at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. A.C. Flora and the Yellowjackets are at an even 4-4 over their past eight head-to-heads. As for Ridge View, they will head out on the road to square off against the Redhawks at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Westwood is on a seven-game streak of home wins, the Blazers a six-game streak of away wins -- so someone will have to leave a streak behind on the court.
