Football Game Preview: Wingate Bears vs. Thoreau Hawks

Wingate is 0-9 against Thoreau since October of 2015 but things could change on Friday. The Bears will challenge the Hawks at 7:00 p.m. Both teams are coming into the contest red-hot, with Wingate sitting on five straight victories and Thoreau on seven.

Wingate is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They walked away with a 53-40 win over Tohatchi on Friday.

Meanwhile, Thoreau never let their opponents score on Friday. They took their game with ease, bagging a 56-0 victory over Zuni. The result was nothing new for the Hawks, who have now won six matchups by 25 points or more so far this season.

Thoreau's win came from a few key players Wingate will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Saige Westmoreland, who rushed for 29 yards and a pair of scores. He didn't just play on offense: he also forced one fumble and made six total tackles.

On the defensive side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Thoreau's defense and their four sacks. Leading the way was Jeremy Slim with two. He is also on a roll when it comes to total tackles, as he's now made five or more in each of the last five games he's played.

Wingate's record is now 7-2. As for Thoreau, their record now sits at 7-1.

Wingate was dealt a bruising 62-20 defeat at the hands of Thoreau when the teams last played back in October of 2024. Can the Bears avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
